Laser cleaning
What is laser cleaning?
Laser cleaning removes rust, paint, coatings, oil and other contaminants from metal using focused laser energy. The contaminant layer absorbs the energy and breaks away, while the base metal is left in place. It’s non-contact and uses no blasting media and no chemicals.
What can laser cleaning remove?
Rust and corrosion, paint and other coatings, oil, and general surface contaminants on metal. If you’re not sure your job fits, describe it or send photos and ask.
Does laser cleaning damage the metal?
It’s designed not to. Laser cleaning is non-contact and non-abrasive, and the energy is set to remove the contaminant layer, not the steel underneath. That’s the key difference from abrasive blasting, which cleans by wearing the surface down and can thin metal and change tolerances.
How is laser cleaning different from sandblasting?
Blasting throws abrasive media at the surface. It works, but it wears away some of the base metal, leaves spent media to clean up, and can embed particles that affect coatings. Laser cleaning uses no media and no chemicals, generates minimal waste and preserves the base material.
Is laser cleaning better for the environment?
It avoids two waste streams common to traditional methods: chemical solvents and spent blasting media. What comes off the surface is the contaminant itself, so waste is minimal and there’s no chemical runoff.
Is a laser-cleaned surface ready for paint or coating?
Clean metal with no embedded blasting media is a good base for a coating. Improved coating adhesion is one of the benefits of laser cleaning before a coating goes on.
Services & scheduling
Do you come to us?
Yes. Madison Laser Clean Technologies is a mobile service. Work is done on site, so equipment doesn’t have to be transported.
Do you work with fleets?
Yes. Fleet Maintenance Plans cover scheduled cleanings for multiple vehicles or assets, customized to asset type, usage and operational needs. Ask about them in your quote request.
What does “protection” mean for frames and dump beds?
Both services include protection after cleaning: a protective treatment or coating that slows future corrosion. For dump beds it’s optional. Ask about protection for your equipment when you request a quote.
Can you take on equipment that doesn’t fit a category?
Yes. Oversized assets, non-standard equipment and precision-critical surfaces are evaluated individually for scope and pricing. Describe the job in a quote request.
Pricing & quotes
How much does laser cleaning cost?
Work is priced by custom quote, and no rates are published. Factors that can affect the cost include the asset and its size, the type and severity of the contamination, and where the equipment is. Request a quote with a short description, and photos if you have them.
Do you publish prices or packages?
No. No prices or packages are published. Each project is quoted based on its scope.
What should I send to get a quote?
What the asset is and roughly how big it is, what you’re removing (rust, paint, coating, oil), where the equipment is, and when you need it done. Photos of the whole piece and a close-up of the worst area help.
Service area
Where do you work?
We’re based in Michiana and work on site across Indiana, Michigan, Illinois and Ohio, including South Bend, Elkhart, Fort Wayne, Indianapolis, Chicago, Grand Rapids and Detroit.
What if my town isn’t listed?
